Grant Eligibility

 Granting for 2013

The Campbell River Community Foundation is committed to creating a healthy and vibrant community. We engage our donors and area non-profits to create opportunities for all citizens to experience a high quality of life.

Please review the information provided to determine if your organization and your initiative meet our criteria for granting.  If so, applications are available in Word and PDF format for downloading on the page How to Apply for a Grant

Important Dates:

  • Granting Cycle opens: Friday, March 15, 2013
  • Granting Cycle closes: noon, Friday, April 19, 2013
  • Funds are distributed by Friday, May 10, 2013 at the latest

Eligible Organizations

Your organization must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for grants from the Community Foundation:

  • The organization must be located in the Community Foundation's service area. This service area is defined geographically as North to Sayward, West to Buttle Lake, East to include Cortes & Quadra Islands, and South to Oyster River.
  • The organization must be a BC registered Society. Those societies which are not registered charities under the Income tax Act must arrange to apply through an organization that is a registered charity, and which will accept the grant on their behalf. (A charity number must be included in the application)
  • Provide a benefit to the citizens of the geographic area served by the Foundation.
  • Applicants must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and effective management
  • Provide all information requested according to the Foundation Grant Making Guidelines.

NOTE: Applications will not be accepted if they do not have a charity number or if it originates from an individual or for-profit organization

Eligible Projects and Programs

In order to have your application considered, it is important to know that the Foundation is seeking to fund projects and programs that:

  • Provide a direct service to the community in our defined geographic area
  • Have clear outcomes
  • Benefit a wide audience
  • Present an innovative and creative approach to address a community concern
  • Strive to have a lasting impact on our community
  • Involve collaboration and partnerships
  • Involves funding being matched
  • Build on existing community strengths and assets
  • Use resources efficiently and effectively

Please note the Foundation is proud to present special funding annually (part of the $35,000 offered in 2013) in the following categories: 

The Mailman Family Fund 

$9,100 of funding available for programs

  • For the physically or mentally challenged or
  • For children in need due to their family structure for development and education programs 

Fisheries Endowment Fund  

$1800 of funding available for programs or projects based on conservation of

  • Fisheries habitat conservation, enhancement, or creation, and/or

  • Restoration of fish species and populations and/or

  • Public education promoting the values of fisheries conservation and/or

  • Promotion of the sport of angling and/or

  • Creation of angling opportunities.

Priority locations for consideration are located on the lakes, rivers and marine foreshores within the City of Campbell River boundaries

The Foundation does not fund or considers lower priority items such as:

  • Retroactive funding prior to our decision date
  • Granting 100% of a project's costs
  • Retiring debt or reserves; mortgage pay-downs
  • Fundraising activities
  • Operating or capital deficits
  • Activities of with limited membership or religious organizations that serve primarily their membership and/or their direct religious purposes,
  • Sabbatical leaves; student exchanges
  • Medical facilities or equipment
  • Amateur sport sponsorships
  • Library acquisitions and construction
  • School construction (including post secondary)
  • Support for academic or dissertation research
  • Computer labs, office furniture and equipment
  • Activities previous supported by government funding
  • Endowment grants
