My name is Tara Ashley. I have been working in the insurance industry since 2013 as an Insurance Broker specializing in personal lines products. My first 5 years in the industry were spent working in Courtenay at First Insurance/The Cooperators. I then made the transition to Waypoint Insurance here in Campbell River.
I have completed many Virtual Assistant courses to gain further knowledge on social media branding as well as utilize various online organizational tools.
During my time at First Insurance I was active in the Secret Santa committee which provides Christmas Gifts to under privileged children in the Comox Valley. I have also spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity as well as multiple community impact days.
Being born and raised in Campbell River I truly have a passion for our community. I am a firm believer that looking ahead and planning for the future should be continuous and I believe that is exactly what the Campbell River Community Foundation can provide for generations to come.
When I am not working you will find me outdoors spending time with our dog, in the kitchen cooking, hosting dinner parties, doing yoga or staying active.

I hold a degree in Recreation Management and studied community engagement and public participation. I was born in Campbell River; raised my family here; and worked as a manager of recreation services, facilities, events and programs. I am currently a small business owner with my husband Steve. I love living on the edge of the wild – outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and paddling; as well as, art, music fills my leisure time.
I enjoy contributing my organizational and communication skills to projects that mobilize and build community. You might find me setting up at a Live Streets event, leading an art activity, registering Terry Fox runners, selling tokens at the North Island Craft Beer Festival – I am a doer!
The passions and strengths I bring to CR Community Foundation include creative thinking, strategic planning – a collaborator and team player. I believe in building connections, evidence based decisions and values driven change. Chair’s Message
As the board chair for 2022-2023, I am pleased to report on the activities of the Campbell River Community Foundation since July 1, 2022.
Our focus for the past 6 months was to make the foundation more visible. Our new executive director Michaea Arruda was busy organizing events to make us better known. She organized 2 key events which were well attended: the Vital Signs Report on our community well being, and a A Vital Conversation on Housing, which brought together politicians, developers, financiers and non profits to discuss solutions to our housing crisis. Both events were well attended and work continues to be done in these very important areas.
For the balance of this term we are focusing on 3 granting processes. First is the Community Services Recovery Fund. This is a partnership with Community Foundations of Canada and the Federal Government to distribute $225,000 to local organizations to help them adapt to the long term impacts of the pandemic. Applications can be made online but must be received by February 21, 2023.
The second is our Neighbourhood Small Grants Fund. This program provides between $50 and $500 to anyone with an idea to create a sense of community in Campbell River. Applications can be made on our website between March 1 and March 31.
The third is our annual Community Grants for eligible registered charities to assist them in making our area a better place. We expect to have over $70,000 available for distribution. Applications can be made online from April 1 to April 30.
Our other focus at this time is to grow our endowment fund of approximately $3,300,000. funds. This is invested carefully and the income is distributed annually, but we can never meet all of the needs of our community on the interest from this fund. Every donation is permanent – a legacy. Donor’s receive a charitable tax receipt and the money stays in Campbell River to “Help People Help Others”. Donors help make their community a better place and reduce their income taxes. Its a “win-win”. We hope you agree and will help us make Campbell River an even better place to live.
Sincerely
Dan Wickham
President of the Campbell River Community Foundation
