The Sandra Weames 2SLGBTQIA+ Advocacy Scholarship
This scholarship fund is designed to assist 2SLGBTQIA+ high school students within School District 72, 84, and 85, to further their education at a post-secondary level to obtain a diploma or degree at a certified university, college, or other post-secondary institution of learning. There will be a single scholarship made available annually.
The criterion for selection is as follows:
1. You must be Canadian citizen, permanent resident, conventional refugee, or a refugee claimant.
2. You must be graduating from grade 12 and enrolling in a Canadian postsecondary education institution.
3. You must write an essay of up to 1000 words detailing
(i) why you should be the recipient of this award,
(ii) your financial need, and
(iii) what you hope to accomplish in the future for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
4. You must provide a copy of your most recent transcripts and proof of enrollment in a postsecondary institution (once you receive it).
5. You must provide 2 references (with contact information), one of them a teacher, who has observed your activities, can provide details of your involvement in local diversity initiatives and your likelihood of success in your post-secondary career. Not more than 2 pages please!
The application form and supporting materials must be presented to the appropriate senior high school selection committee by no later than the deadline specified by that committee. The selection committee will make its recommendation to CRCF, who shall make its decision by June 30th each year.
