2026 Scholarships

2026 Scholarships Available

BACKGROUND

Barry Henshall was a teacher, educator, and administrator in Campbell River for many years. During his long involvement with young people in our local schools, as well as his dedicated commitment to the betterment of our community, he demonstrated many admirable qualities.

This award seeks to recognize those qualities in young people graduating from our senior secondary schools in Campbell River.

In May of 2009, the Board of Directors of the Campbell River TV Association, Campbell River’s former locally owned cable company, created a designated fund of $50,000 in trust with the Campbell River Community Foundation to provide two annual scholarships in the name of Barry Henshall.

Scholarship Eligibility

The Campbell River Community Foundation is committed to creating a healthy and vibrant community. Our scholarships are made possible through the generosity of community-minded donors. We work closely with our donors to connect them with opportunities to make a difference in a way that is meaningful to them.

For this reason, every scholarship is unique and has it’s own applicant eligibility.

Please note that we must collect students Social Insurance Numbers in advance of distributing the scholarship to them as scholarships are reported annually to the CRA. In accordance with CRA regulations, we will issue the student a T4A on or before February 28 of the following calendar year.

NOTE:

  • All completed applications must be submitted to the appropriate school counsellor.
  • Schools must make recommendations to CRCF by the end of May in order for awards to be given to students at their graduation ceremony in June.
  • If there are no applicants recommended by the end of May, exceptions for this timeline can be made as long as the student with the late application fulfills the award criteria as set out in the Selection Criteria.

“We donate to the Campbell River Community Foundation for many reasons. We love the fact that by donating to them, we leave a legacy for our family. We appreciate the fact that the money goes back into our community to support other non-profits and charities. It makes it such an easy choice for us to donate to them because we know where the money is going and we get to see the effect it has on people in our city.”

Kyle & Sarah Leigh – the North Island Craft Beer Festival Society Fund

“I want everyone to learn about the Foundation and know what they do! As a business, we are asked so frequently for donations to events, which I love supporting, but I know that when I give to the Foundation, it gets redistributed back into the community and benefits everyone. It helps take the decision-making out of it for me, when I support the Community Foundation, I know I’m supporting Campbell River.”

Christine Lilyholm

The Campbell River Community has been really good to us through years of developing our businesses, so it has been really important on a philanthropy level and family morals level, to give back to the community that has always supported you.

Amanda Raleigh

The level of giving, and the level of philanthropy in this community is unbelievable.

Bill Matthews

The Campbell River Community Foundation is an organization that has a lot of professional people in it that manage the funds extremely well and distributes them to the individual organizations that really need them.

Randy Leigh

We have chosen to invest in the Campbell River Community Foundation because it is a way of giving back to the community and a continuing future legacy in which the funds are well managed and not heavy in administration fees. Local organizations in need are well served by this growing Foundation.
