The Heart: Our New Shared Community Workspace

A STRATEGIC GOAL
The Heart is the result of the Board’s strategic objective set for this year: to perform a feasibility assessment of securing office space. We needed a place to land, a place where people could come to us and where we could invite others – a place where we could do our work for the community. We also came to realize that it felt like a loss if we had an office that was all for ourselves – CRCF is meant to convene and collaborate with others in pursuit of our mission: enriching life in Campbell River.
This initiative has evolved significantly, and we considered leasing or purchasing, having space for us or space for other non-profits and charities, or space for everyone, including for-profit entities. We often work with donors and businesses to support others in our community, so it feels like having space for everyone is the best way for us to fulfill our mission.
We are proud to announce that we have officially landed in an incredible 1,361 sq. ft. commercial office space in the Downtown BIA. Located in unit 302 of the Ocean Pacific Building at 871 Island Highway, we are working tirelessly to ensure our space is “action-ready” for our community.
BUILDING AN ECOSYSTEM
We have achieved several critical milestones this year to realize our vision:
A Modern Workspace: Significantly updated in 2021, we have some modifications to reconfigure the square footage for an open-concept “back area” shared workspace. The space will also feature a dedicated meeting room for up to 6 people, and space for workshops and professional development for up to 24 people.
Technology: We have the technology required for modern hybrid work, including smart TVs, monitors, docking stations, keyboard and mouse packages, and an Owl for hybrid meetings.
Community Support: We launched a survey to help us understand what people need most in this type of shared resource space, and to begin forming a waitlist for people interested in using the space. True to our Strategic Plan, The Heart is built on principles of empowerment, collaboration and innovation. By creating space where people can come together across sectors, we are sure that new relationships, partnerships, and community enrichment will organically develop.
The Heart is a space that reduces professional isolation by bringing people together, reduces barriers to resources needed to advance missions by sharing them, and empowers people to do great things by providing space and opportunity for innovative thinking.
